New York Knicks Tickets for the Season and Postseason

Al Terry asked:

Not only do the people of New York, but also most of the people in the United States, as well as the fans of basketball all over the world, need no introduction of the New York Knicks. For those who do need to know, the New York Knicks are a professional basketball team based at the greatest basketball arena in the world – Madison Square Garden. Along with the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks – popularly known as the Knicks – are the only two remaining charter members of the National Basketball Association (NBA), who are still based in their original cities.

The Knicks actually started as the charter member (one of the 10 teams) of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) – the forerunner of the present NBA, on June 6, 1944. In 1949, the BAA and the National Basketball League merged to form the NBA.

The name Knicks is a shortened form of Knickerbockers – a style of pants used by the early Dutch settlers in the New York area, in the 1600s.

The Knicks – In Brief

The New York Knicks is owned by Cablevision, and play in the Eastern Conference of the Atlantic Division of NBA. The history of the Knicks started with a win; when they beat the Toronto Huskies 68-66, in their first ever game in the league on November 1, 1946. Very early in their career, the Knicks won three consecutive Conference titles in 1951,1952,and 1953, out of a total of eight. They also have eight Division titles under their belt, the last three also consecutively, in 1992, 1993, and 1994.

The New York Knicks have won two NBA Championships, too, in 1970 and 1973. They reached their first NBA final in the 1950-51 season, but lost 79-75 to the Rochester Royals. They reached the finals again the following two years in 1952 and in 1953, but could not win. From here on onwards, and right into the decade of the 1960s, the Knicks touched the bottom of the barrel, so to speak.

However, they recovered their winning ways at the turn of the decade, won their first NBA Championship in 1970, beating the L. A. Lakers in front of their home crowd at the Madison Square Garden.

The Home Of The Knicks

Madison Square Garden (MSG) – home of the New York Knicks – is presently in its fourth avatar. The first MSG opened in 1879 and was demolished 10 years later. The second MSG opened in 1890, whereas the third garden opened in 1925.

When the Knicks first started playing in 1946, they had the third MSG as their home. When MSG III closed down at the time the fourth MSG opened in February 1968, the Knicks shifted home here. They are presently well ensconced at MSG IV.

Arranging directly from the venues being difficult, you can procure your season and postseason Knicks tickets from all the licensed ticket brokers in New York. They are efficient in arranging the Knicks Tickets for the games of your choice, and can arrange to have them delivered to your home.
